Body drawing

Our last assignments of the year all focussed around the theme of how to draw a proper body. We had to use circles and ovals to complete this task, and to be honest I was quite bad at it. In the first assignment we had to draw a few small sketches (as can be seen on the included photograph), in the second assignment we had to draw an A3 sized poster. The poster is unfortunately not included since it still has to be marked. On the first assignment there is also no mark, but I hope for a sufficient.

The I am poem

The I am poem. I can immediately say this was one of the nicest assignments of my entire 'artclass'-carreer. We started of with making a poem, which I based on Judith Leister. Then we had to write this poem (or print if you were not able to write properly) on a A3-sized paper and make some illustrations alongside the poem. The good thing about this assignment actually was the writing bit, since writing quite nice is one of the very few forms of art I quite master. This resulted in a rather unusual happening: for the first time I was not really satisfied with my mark for arts, since I had hoped for a little bit higher than a 7.5.

Collage

Our third assignment in the self portrait-theme was to make a collage, so to show others who you really are and what you like. I liked the assignment and I had plenty of magazines from which I could easily find enough pictures.

The collage shows:

Messi- my favourite footballer and an idol to me. (Although I do not play football myself anymore)

Cristian Tello in the Fc Barcelona outfit- also a great player which also plays at my favourite club, just like Messi, Fc Barcelona (Barça for fans). I also have some shirts of Barça myself, so it is special to me.

Ezio Auditore, main character in Assassins Creed Brotherhood & Revelations- Ezio is the main character in 2 games of my favourite game saga: Assassins Creed. I do not game really much, but when I do it is most of the time Assassins Creed.

A Ferrari- I'm quite interested in cars, and I really like Ferrari's.

An Audi R8- A marvelous looking car.

Batman- One of the most epic heroes of all time.

A good-looking female- I thought she suited quite well in my collage.

For my collage I got a 7.5, which I was very happy about since it is a high mark for me considering art. I hope I can continue with these kind of marks!

Self portrait

This time our assignment was to, after we had practised a lot on it, make 2 beautiful self portrait of yourself. Although I might not have managed to make them really beautiful I did get a 7 for them, which is rather good for me concerning art.
When you look at the portraits you can see the colours that I have used differ a lot in both. In one I wanted to express myself in a happy mood, with bright colours like red, yellow and orange. In the other one I wanted to express myself as someone who is thinking very deeply about difficult subjects f.e. life or tests ;)
Personally I do not really have a favourite painting, although I think the colour scheme of the darker one might have the edge over the colour scheme of the brighter painting.
Hopefully I can keep improving my painting-skills. However, I think I'm not born with an overwhelming amount of talent.

Self-portrait

This is the result of our first assignment of this schoolyear, in which we had to make a self-portrait. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the hang of it and the result isn't too nice. I hope my upcoming pieces will be from better quality, also because I hope to get a better mark, for this one I got a 6.

Childish drawing (5 years old)

This drawing I made when I was 5 years old and at this time is was in the 2nd group of elementary school. It shows a witch and after looking at all of my paintings I've produced in my early childhood, I think it's also one of the best. However, after inspecting all of the paintings again, it became shockingly clear to me that I will probably never become a real artist.

My painting

One of my favourite assignments until now is making a reproduction of a painting from the Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. I tried to use some techniques Van Gogh also used, but I had been putting a bit too much paint on my painting so it crulled up, that's why my painting is hold flat by my bag and my guitar amplifier. Despite this little problem I think I did a good job, which was also rewarded with one of my highest 'painting' marks yet: an 8.

Skateboard deck design

Making a skateboard design didn't sound that hard to me. However, I soon realised after starting that this wasn't  going to be a succes. I know I could and should have done better on this one and although art isn't my best subject, this is really bad. No special features combined with a simple colour scheme makes this design a failure. Nevertheless, there are also a positive point: I got a 6,3 for it, which is not insuficient. :)

Haring bike

At art class we took a closer look to the artist Keith Haring. Keith Haring was a famous painter widely known for his special dolls. Of course, we all so had to try this style ourselves with our own 'Haring Bike'. To look at my own work, I think my first bike is way better than the second one and I'm pleased with a 6.5, although I want to go for a higher mark next time.

Canterbury cathedral

Before visit:

On the 20^th of December 2011, we will go to Canterbury. There we will visit many things, including the famous Canterbury cathedral. I think the Canterbury cathedral will be a very big, almost pompous building, with a lot of decoration.
I don’t know for sure if I will really like it, because it maybe that I will think it’s a bit over the top.

History of the Canterbury cathedral

In 597 St Augustine was sent by the Pope to bring Christianity back. He went to Canterbury and he founded the first cathedral in England which is now the enormous Canterbury cathedral. Canterbury cathedral has been a very important place for pilgrimages for over 800 after the assassination of Archbishop Thomas Becker in 1170.

After visit:

Canterbury cathedral was an enormous as I had expected but it was more modest than I thought it would be, and for example as I had seen in Rome in the St. Peter’s Basilica. The parts I liked most of the cathedral were the windows, which were beautifully decorated with stained glass.

I think the story is Thomas Becker is interesting because they actually didn’t really like him when he was alive, but when he was killed he got very popular.

Illuminated letter

For art class we got a new assignment:
make a illuminated letter, I thought it
would be hard and it was. I'm not a
fast drawer so I didn't have the time
to completely colour it in. I do like
some of the patrons of my letter,
but I think it's not that nice because
it's not finished and the background
is not very good. I got a 6.5 for my
drawing and I'm happy with that.

Apple drawing

We had to draw an apple for art class.
I made several drawings and I put the
drawing here of one. It is not fantastic,
but also not really bad. Maybe I could
use a little bit more perspective, but for
me it's not bad. For all my drawings
together I got a 6.5.

Sandwich

As assignment we had to make a sandwich painting. I got a 7 for my painting and was very pleased with that because I didn't finish it. I'm really bad at drawing and painting, but I think this time it was beter than normal. (otherways I didn't got a 7) so I'm happy with that. There are also some things I want to do better next time. I couldn't finish it and my sandwich looks a bit burned. An other part of the assignment was to mix colors for your sandwich and I think I did that not to bad.

Banknote

For art class we had to make a banknote.
My mark was a 6.5 and I agreed with that.

Johannes Itten

He lived from 1888 to 1967.

He lived in different places:

he was born in Südern-Linden,

went to Geneva, but returned to Bern

because he was unimpressed about

the teachers in Geneva. Later he gave

lessons at the Bauhaus. 

Itten's color theory is as follow:

It has primary colors: yellow, red

and blue, seconday colors: orange,

green and violet and finally there are

tertiary colors, these are mixes from 

primary and secondary colors.

Filmverslag Afblijven

Filmverslag

Omdat ik ziek was bij de theatervoorstelling moest ik een film van Carry Slee kijken als vervangende opdracht. Ik heb de film Afblijven gekozen. De regisseur was Maria Peters. De hoofdrolspelers zijn: Melissa (Sem Veeger), Jordi  (Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen) en Jim (Tommy Venneker). Het is een Nederlandse film. Ik heb de film gezien op 1 januari 2011. De film gaat over Melissa die houdt van dansen. Haar ouders denken dat ze aan ballet doet maar in het echt doet ze aan hiphop. Melissa wordt samen met Debby, een meisje uit haar klas, geselecteerd om mee te doen met een auditie van rapper Brainpower. Melissa is op de dag van de auditie erg zenuwachtig ook omdat ze te laat was. Dat kwam omdat Debby haar niet kwam ophalen terwijl ze dat wel had beloofd. Dit deed ze om zelf meer kans te maken bij de audities, maar ze viel toch nog af. Toen moest Melissa meerijden met Jordi op de fiets. Om het nog erger te maken kwamen ze eerst bij de verkeerde studio. Tot dat een paar agenten hun de weg wezen. Toen ze er eindelijk aankwamen waren de audities eigenlijk al voorbij, maar Melissa mocht het toch nog proberen. Ze is erg zenuwachtig in de kleedkamer. Een andere danser, Jim, zegt haar dat hij wel wat voor de zenuwen heeft. Dit zijn Xtc-pillen. Melissa neemt ze en danst dan ook een heel goede auditie en gaat door. Ze trekt daarna ook steeds meer met Jim op en raakt verslaafd aan Xtc. Melissa wordt op een gegeven moment opgepakt met heel veel Xtc-pillen in haar tas die van Jim zijn. Jim wil zijn geld terug en ontvoerd Melissa zelfs toen ze het niet snel genoeg terugbetaalde. Na een groot ongeluk met vergiftigde Xtc-pillen, waarbij Melissa in coma raakt, heeft Jordi er genoeg van en wil hij Melissa niet meer zien. Bij zijn werk bij de autowasserij ziet hij Jim en een vriend in de wasserette gaan hij saboteert hun zo dat ze vast komen te zitten. Tegen de tijd dat Jim dat door heeft is de politie er al bijna. Hij probeert Jordi ook nog te gijzelen maar na dat dat mislukt wordt hij opgepakt. Melissa is dan net uit het ziekenhuis en legt bij het politiebureau een verklaring af. Op dat moment ziet ze Jordi voorbijkomen in het politiebureau en Jim terwijl die wordt weggevoerd. Ze gaat naar Jordi toe en ze maken het weer goed. Ik denk dat deze film wel een boodschap heeft . Namelijk dat je moet weten wie je echte vrienden zijn en nooit moet beginnen met drugs. De hele film speelt zich af in het dorp van Melissa en Jordi. Omdat ze er een zo geloofwaardig mogelijke film van probeerden te maken hebben de acteurs gewone kleren aan. Ik vond Sem Veeger en Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen de beste acteurs. Niet alleen omdat ze de hoofdrollen speelden maar ook omdat ze het het echts brachten. De muziek van de film was wel erg belangrijk vooral bij het hiphop. Het filmpje van Brainpower waar Melissa ook in zit was een opvallend geluideffect. Het camerawerk speelde vooral bij de hiphoplessen een grote rol omdat dan alle bewegingen goed te zien moesten zijn. De film was erg actueel en op sommige stukken ook wel spannend. Hij is ook wel geloofwaardig maar wel geromantiseerd. Het is wel een mooie film. Ik heb niet zo snel dat een film me ontroerd dus dat deed me weinig. Dit was mijn filmverslag.

Art in your neighbourhood

The Volco statues:

The Volco statues show a story
about a dragon that changes into
several statues. There's even a
little book written about it.
It's not realy clear who made it.
It's made in 2007. The book
was allready out in 1997.
